First Log

Hello and thank you for checking out my game!

The working title  of it is Endra's Flame and it is about a griffin.  The plot will be shaped to fit the gameplay, though I have the general idea planned. I have gotten the basics of movement down and am starting to go more into level design. Most of what I have already will not make it into the the final game and what stays will probably be heavily changed. There are many sparse areas of the game where I definitely intend to put either monsters or NPCs.

Please enjoy and as this is a prototype any critique will be heavily considered!

Longer Log

Okay, so this is the second full game I have attempted to make. The first died within a few months, my fault really, I was over ambitious. I kind of worry that I am on this project, though things are going well so far.

I started this project back in January I think. I realized after a few weeks away from my first game that the scripts were so messed up I'd never be able to finish, so I scrapped it and built this.

The main character is named Endra and she starts in this game is a yellow-ish grass tunnel system, but as the player progresses it quickly shifts to different shades of green.  This follows the change I had in environmental design over the past few months. The conflict that starts the griffin on its quest comes from a raging fire. I thought I would make the whole area look decimated, but realized it was kind of samey, so I switched it to three separate enviorments (possibly four, we'll see what happens), the first being this lush green area.

One of my main struggles I had while making this was Endra's movement. Since the player is a quadruped, I needed them to angle  with the ground, which led to a whole bunch of other problems. I remember for a while someone could run up any surface as long as it was remotely slanted, and sometimes the player would run off a cliff, adjust the angle to the cliff and fall nearly upside down. I fixed the first by saying if the middle raycast was hitting too high or too low of an angle the player couldn't move in an upwards direction. The second I solved by resetting the player's z rotation to zero whenever they were not on the ground.

There were more problems I faced by I should not ramble too long. If you want to here more please tell me, I'll add more to my next dev log if people like reading these.

In the next update expect either changes to some of the art or increased areas of play. Enjoy the game!
